Man Utd midfielder Scott McTominay ruled out of Tottenham clash as club release statement

Scott McTominay has been ruled out of Manchester United's Premier League clash against Tottenham, the club confirmed on Thursday morning.

The Red Devils travel to north London in high spirits following their FA Cup semi-final victory over Brighton.

But Erik ten Hag's focus must return to qualifying for the Champions League on Thursday evening, as he prepares to face a Tottenham side low on confidence.

Consecutive losses against Bournemouth and Newcastle have left Spurs in seventh place, with a top four finish seemingly out of reach.

However, Ten Hag will be without McTominay for the contest, after the club released a statement confirming his absence.

The Scotland international hasn't featured since United's 2-0 win over Everton, in which McTominay scored the opening goal.

Although he has not featured since, with the cause of his absence still unknown.

"Scott, we have to wait a little bit longer, I fear," Ten Hag told MUTV of the Tottenham match.

"But I am sure they are all motivated to be back as soon as possible as we play a lot of ‘finals’, huge games and, in the end, we know what is going on then."

McTominay isn't the only midfielder who could be missing against Tottenham, with Bruno Fernandes also a doubt for the game.

Fernandes injury update

Fernandes played 100 minutes against Brighton on Sunday, but looked to turn his ankle during the first half.

When asked if he would be fit to face Tottenham, Ten Hag was unsure.

We have to see how Bruno Fernandes is,” the United boss told reporters.

“We don't know yet, he is a question mark. I think for the rest, we are quite okay.”

Supporters were left concerned after a picture of the 28-year-old circulated online showing him in a protective boot and crutches at home.

However, Ten Hag is yet to rule Fernandes out of the trip down south, although admitted time was not on their side.

"It's more often [than not] that players [wear the boot], that we protect them,” the Dutchman explained.

“But it [the ankle] has to settle down so we all have seen he played the full [90-minute] game and it happened in the first half.

“But [the game is] Thursday, so tomorrow is quick but we have to see what is possible.”
