Brighton wonderkid Evan Ferguson 'set to snub Man Utd move this summer'

Brighton wonderkid Evan Ferguson 'set to snub Man Utd move this summer'

This would be a brave decision.

Brighton striker Evan Ferguson looks set to turn down a move to Manchester United, according to reports.

Erik ten Hag is intent on bringing an elite striker to Old Trafford this summer, following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in November. And Ferguson has been earmarked as his potential successor.

The 18-year-old is enjoying a fantastic breakout season at the Amex stadium, scoring seven goals in 16 matches across all competitions this term.

He followed up his brace against Grimsby Town in the FA Cup with a debut goal for the Republic of Ireland, in last week's friendly 3-2 win against Latvia.

His prolific form is said to have earned him the attention of Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham. However, it is believed the striker will snub his suitors in favour of staying on the south coast.

Ferguson set to snub Man Utd

Manchester United will send scouts to watch Ferguson play against France on Monday, claim The Sun.

Although should the club come knocking, Ferguson will reportedly reject all proposals, believing he is better served staying with the Seagulls where he will have a better chance of playing first team football.

His decision may come as a surprise considering his Manchester United allegiance, having grown up a fan of the club.

During an interview in January last year, Ferguson told Brighton's website he "grew up Manchester United fan", and used to "watch Danny Welbeck every week", whom he now shares a pitch with at Brighton.

The teenager was labelled a 'superstar' following his display during Brighton's 5-0 win over Grimsby Town in the FA Cup.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy was full of praise for the Ferguson. Following the game, Murphy said on Match of the Day: “This kid is a superstar, honestly.”

“He’s got great feet, technical ability. He’s calm, powerful and plays the role really well. You don’t see him out wide, he stays central and is always a target.

“I can’t see a weakness in his game at the moment. For 18-years-old, the maturity he shows in his game is phenomenal.”
