Bruno Fernandes urges Man Utd to consider signing Benfica star Goncalo Ramos

Bruno Fernandes wants to see his compatriot at United.

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has urged the club to consider the signing of Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos, saying he can become 'one of the best strikers in the world'.

The Daily Mirror claimed earlier in May that United were plotting a club-record move to bring the 21-year-old to Old Trafford this summer.

Ramos scored 27 goals in all competitions for Benfica this season, with seven of those goals being scored in 14 Champions League appearances across both the qualification and group phases.

The Portugal international also netted a stunning hat-trick during a 6-1 win over Switzerland in the last 16 of the World Cup in December, after replacing Cristiano Ronaldo in manager Fernando Santos' starting XI.

He has seemingly been identified as an alternative to Tottenham star Harry Kane, with England's all-time leading goalscorer reportedly the primary target of United boss Erik ten Hag.

Now, Fernandes has talked up the ability and potential of his international compatriot - but added that the final decision on whether to bring him to Old Trafford rests with United.

Fernandes on Ramos

Speaking to Brazilian outlet Sportv (via A Bola), Fernandes explained: "If he [Ramos] continues to work as he has worked so far, I believe he has the potential to be one of the best strikers in the world.

"He's already close to that level, but he still needs to go to a more competitive league and prove it there. I believe he has the capabilities for that.

"Here [in England], the best always work out, whether Goncalo or someone else. He has all the qualities to play in the Premier League, and when I say Premier League, I also mean Manchester United.

"I think he could become a great reference in the coming years, but it's still not in my hands to be sports director. When I become one, I will make those decisions."
