Man Utd linked with World Cup defender once targeted by Arsenal and Chelsea, he could cost just €10m

Man Utd linked with World Cup defender once targeted by Arsenal and Chelsea, he could cost just €10m

He could be a bargain signing in January.

Manchester United are being linked with a surprise bid for Netherlands international Stefan de Vrij.

De Vrij, 30, currently plays his club football for Inter Milan but is out of contract at the end of the season.

According to Calcio Mercato Web, a number of Inter players could be put up for sale next month including former Feyenoord defender De Vrij.

Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni are also being linked with a January exit from San Siro.

Like De Vrij, Skriniar is out of contract in the summer, while Bastoni's current deal expires in 2024.

It is claimed that Inter could allow all three players to leave in January.

De Vrij a potential January bargain

United have been linked with a potential move for De Vrij, who is part of the Dutch squad at the World Cup in Qatar.

The report claims United boss Erik ten Hag, described in the report as a "technician with a great knowledge of Dutch football", could "dive right into" a potential opportunity to sign De Vrij on a cut-price deal.

It is claimed that De Vrij, who was linked with Chelsea and Arsenal earlier in his career, could cost the Red Devils as little as €10m (£8.5m).

De Vrij has made 181 appearances for Inter Milan since joining the Italian club from Lazio in 2018.

He was part of the side that won the Serie A title in the 2020-21 campaign and the Coppa Italia last season.

According to The Telegraph, Ten Hag has been given the green light over potential January signings.

However, United are expected to focus on signing a new right-back, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka potentially being allowed to leave the club.
