"He doesn't want..." - Romano drops major Weghorst update as Man Utd look to complete deal

"He doesn't want..." - Romano drops major Weghorst update as Man Utd look to complete deal

Man Utd have been linked with a shock move for Burnley striker Wout Weghorst.

Manchester United are working hard to complete a deal for Wout Weghorst in January, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.

United are in need of attacking reinforcements following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, whose contract was terminated by mutual agreement in November.

But the club's owners, the Glazer family, are reportedly reluctant to spend this month while they continue to seek a buyer for the club.

United have been linked with a number of cut-price options including a loan deal for Burnley striker Weghorst.

The Netherlands international, who played for his country at the World Cup in Qatar, has scored eight goals in 16 appearances while on loan at Turkish club Besiktas in the first half of the season.

'Ten Hag is keen to sign Weghorst'

Transfer expert Romano has confirmed that talks are ongoing between United, Burnley and Besiktas over a potential deal for Weghorst.

"Manchester United are working to find a solution with Besiktas and Burnley to get Wout Weghorst deal done — both player and club side are confident," tweeted Romano.

"Talks will continue as player has been very clear: he doesn't want to miss this big chance, Erik ten Hag wants him."

Manchester United boss Ten Hag is keen to sign a striker in January after losing Ronaldo and has set his sights on his compatriot Weghorst.

The 30-year-old striker has experience of English football, having joined Burnley in a £12m move from Wolfsburg last January.

He struggled in the Premier League, managing only two goals in 20 appearances as the Clarets were relegated in his debut season at Turf Moor.

Weghorst moved to the Turkish Super Lig this season with Besiktas and has enjoyed a resurgence, scoring nine goals in all competitions – including a winner against Kasimpasa last week.

After the match, he was seen waving to the home supporters – an apparent farewell gesture to the club ahead of his potential move to Old Trafford.

However, there is no break clause in Weghorst's season-long loan deal at Besiktas and the Turkish club would have to give their approval for the striker to join United.
