Mateo Kovacic Managed To Ruin A Punter's £6000 Bet In The 90th Minute Of Chelsea vs Liverpool

Mateo Kovacic bringing down Mohamed Salah in the 90th minute of Chelsea vs Liverpool during the Carabao Cup final cost one punter £6000.

Liverpool won their ninth League Cup at Wembley on Sunday afternoon in a tense 11-10 penalty shootout, after a 0-0 draw in 120 minutes.

Ben Walsh had a feeling the game would be 0-0 after 90 minutes so stuck a £20 bet on that as well as no Chelsea player getting booked in normal time.

All seemed to be going well until Salah was hauled to the ground by Kovacic to prevent a counter attack.

Stuart Attwell went into his pocket and gave the midfielder a yellow card and Ben's dreams were shattered.

He tweeted a screenshot of the Sky Bet app and captioned it: "Was there any need @MateoKovacic8?"

Fans on social media have reacted and they think it could be the unluckiest bet of the season so far.

One commented: "There was about 10 yellow worthy moments in the game before this too, what a sickener."

Another added: "I'd be round Kovacic’s house demanding my 6 grand."

While a third put: "Come on Mateo do the decent thing and pay him out."

Both sides had the ball in the back of the next at one point in the game but VAR ruled both goals out.

Virgil van Dijk was judged to have held Reece James back while in an offside position to cancel out Joel Matip's header, while Romelu Lukaku veered offside before slotting past Caoimhin Kelleher.

The biggest talking point came in extra time when Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel brought on Kepa Arrizabalaga for Edouard Mendy.

Kepa had been Chelsea's goalkeeper for the entire competition until this final and he has a better penalty record than Mendy.

The substitution didn't work however and not only did Kepa fail to save a penalty, he blazed his spot-kick over to hand Liverpool the trophy.

"To fall and rise," the 27-year-old posted on Monday morning.

"Disappointed after big effort during the tournament. We keep working.

"Thanks Chelsea family for your support."
