After being shown the door by Sky Sports, Matt Le Tissier has questioned why they were still employing Jamie Carragher after he spat at a young girl from his car.
Le Tissier was sacked from his role on Soccer Saturday in 2020 after 15 years of service, he was shown the exit alongside Phil Thompson and Charlie Nicholas.
When he was told that protecting Sky’s ‘reputation’ was one of the potential reasons for his sacking, Le Tissier questioned why the broadcaster were still employing Carragher after the former Liverpool defender spat at a 14-year-old girl from his car in 2018.

After the incident, Carragher was suspended for six months but was allowed to return at the start of the new season.
Le Tissier spoke to The Rob Moore podcast about his sacking.
He said: “Within five seconds I was told there was no more work for me at Sky. I had about seven months left to run on my contract but I was told that I wouldn't be needed anymore.”
The Southampton legend then spoke about his controversial social media posts about COVID and the Black Lives Matter movement being a reason behind his dismissal.

Le Tissier said: “They didn't really give a particular reason, they just said “the show was going in a different direction”, they were the words I think they used. So I asked the question, “does this have anything to do with my posts on social media?”
“To which their reply was, “well we have to take into account the reputation of the company when making these decisions.”
“At which point I said “oh that's interesting, because at the moment, you are employing somebody who spat at a girl from his car”.”
He added: “Jamie Carragher, who spat at a young girl through his car. They suspended him for six months and then brought him back into the fold.”
“I said “do you not think that might have harmed the reputation of the company at all” and I got told “we can't talk about other people on this” so that was it really.”

The former striker has previously admitted that his controversial opinions during the peak of the COVID pandemic ‘probably ended up with me losing my job at Sky’.
When asked about how he felt about no longer working for Sky, Le Tissier said: “I feel relieved now that i don’t have to work for them. I think they’ve turned into a not very nice organisation. And frankly I feel I’m better off without them.”
