Spurs fan burns Mauricio Pochettino book after he becomes Chelsea manager

Mauricio Pochettino has been confirmed as Chelsea's new manager and one Spurs fan didn't take the news very well.

A Spurs fan has reacted furiously to Mauricio Pochettino being announced as Chelsea manager - by burning the Argentine's book.

Pochettino had been widely reported to take the reins from interim boss Frank Lampard at Chelsea once the wretched 2022/23 campaign had been wrapped up.

And just a day after Chelsea's draw with Newcastle saw then finish in 12th place, Pochettino was confirmed as the new Blues boss.

He has signed a two-year contract, with the option of a third, and will be tasked to getting Chelsea back on track again after a dismal season.

He's been out of work since his dismissal from Paris Saint-Germain and returns to English football for the first time since he was given the boot by Spurs in 2019.

But as expected plenty Lilywhites supporters have cut ties with their former boss after his employment with rivals Chelsea.

One fan was so infuriated that he proceeded to burn a book about the former Espanyol and Southampton coach.

In March, Twitter user @tehTrunk said they were enjoying Guillem Balague's words on Pochettino's time at Spurs, who he guided to the Champions League final in 2019.

He wrote: "Giving this bad boy another read. I'd lost my old copy and found that the new version has a section on the lead-up to the CL final. Bonus."

However, their tune has changed massively in just two months. The fan posted a viral video of the book being burnt on a barbecue in the scorching Bank Holiday sun, with the caption: "How's this for a barbecue you f**king turncoat?".

The clip has racked up over 300,000 views. One wonders what type of reception Pochettino will receive when Spurs host Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.

Although he has Soccer Aid managerial commitments first, he will officially begin his new job on July 1.

Expressing delight over the appointment, owner Todd Boehly said: "The sporting team conducted a diligent and thoughtful process that the Board is proud of. We are delighted that Mauricio will be joining Chelsea.

"Mauricio is a world-class coach with an outstanding track record. We are all looking forward to having him on board."
