Man United’s Maxi Oyedele said the Polish FA were the “first to express interest in me” and he is keen to pay them back for their faith.

Manchester United starlet Maxi Oyedele has revealed that he has no current desire to switch his international allegiance away from Poland, despite being able to represent two other countries.

The 18-year-old defensive midfielder, who has played for United Under-18s, Under-19s and Under-21s, signed his first professional contract with the Premier League club back in 2022.

United confirmed in January that Oyedele had been loaned out to Altrincham, with the player scoring two times in six appearances in his spell for the National League side.

Oyedele has represented Poland Under-18s before he was called up for Poland Under-19s, who are currently vying for a place at the European Under-19 Championship.

Poland U19s, who are in Group F, will play Israel Under-19s on 22nd March, Latvia Under-19s on 25th March and Serbia Under-19s on 28th March in their Euro U-19 qualifying matches.

Speaking to the Super Express, Oyedele insisted that he is “happy with the decision” to represent Poland at youth level after the Polish FA reached out to him first.

“The Polish federation was the first to express interest in me, invited me to a training camp, to a national team match,” he told the Polish newspaper.

“And I wanted to try my hand at the international arena. I’ve only had a few meetings behind me, but I’m happy with the decision I made.”

Oyedele is eligible to represent Poland at youth and senior levels due to his mother being Polish, but there are also two other countries open to him in the future.

The United loanee, who arrived at Old Trafford in 2021, was born in Salford and is eligible to represent England if he switches away from Poland.

And Oyedele could also choose to snub both Poland and England in the future and commit his international future to Nigeria, with the Altrincham midfielder able to represent the country due to his father being Nigerian.
