Memphis Depay scores sensational goal for Barcelona with trademark turn, it's impossible to defend

The Barcelona forward looked likely to leave Xavi's team in the summer but ended up staying in the end and scored a wonder goal on Saturday.

Memphis Depay scored his first goal of the season, as Barcelona began to pile on the goals against Elche, thanks to a trademark turn.

Depay moved to Barcelona in the summer of 2021, after a renaissance in France during his spell at Lyon, following his time at Manchester United.

The forward came in as a replacement for PSG bound Lionel Messi but, despite 12 goals in La Liga last term, it looked like he would be sold in the summer.

Robert Lewandowski's arrival, along with Ferran Torres' last January, Raphina's move and the re-signing of Ousmane Dembele looked to end Depay's chances in Xavi's team.

He was linked with a return to United, who wasn't, and even offered to the club, but most likely looked set to join Juventus on a free deal

Barcelona were willing to cancel his contract and not take a fee but the Old Lady decided to sign Arkadiusz Milik instead, who will be suspended this week after his controversial red card.

On Saturday, Depay showed that he's still got a part to play at the Nou Camp, as he scored an excellent goal in the game against Elche.

He received the ball deep in the opposition box, facing away from goal and with a defender marking him tightly, but his incredible turn and fake put him in on goal and he didn't disappoint with the finish.

One commenter on social media summed up how good the former Feyenoord man is at the skill, saying, "Nah, any young striker in the world need to watch that Depay goal on how to hold off a defender in a tight spot.

"An intelligent turn and a finish, only three touches needed. I love that in strikers so much!"

And it seems that his ability to hold off a defender before turning him all ends up and scoring is becoming a signature move for the 28-year-old.

This summer Barca took on Inter Miami in a pre season friendly and the Dutch international scored in a very similar way to the one on Saturday.

He also scored a very different goal in the friendly against Manchester City, which was after the season had started, in a game in which three Barca players expected to leave all scored, although only Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did go.

Lewandowski also continued his impressive form against Elche, as he actually opened the scoring in the 34th minute, after the visitors had Gonzalo Verdu sent off after 14 minutes.

Depay doubled the lead in the 41st minute and just three minutes after the break Lewandowski got on the scoresheet once again.

They were he Polish striker's seventh and eighth goals in La Liga in just six games since joining Xavi's team from Bayern Munich.
