Mo Salah knows how to overtake Erling Haaland next season as surprise stat reveals Liverpool star's weakness

Liverpool’s Mo Salah needs to make just one adjustment to his game to overtake Erling Haaland in the goalscoring charts next season.

Manchester City were confirmed as champions for the third time in succession and the fifth time in six seasons when Arsenal fell to defeat against Nottingham Forest last Saturday.

And Pep Guardiola’s side can go on to make history in June, should they win both their FA Cup final against Manchester United and Champions League final against Inter.

Haaland has propelled the club to new heights this term with his goalscoring prowess. The Norwegian has netted a whopping 52 goals in all competitions, including a record 36 in the Premier League.

The Norway international has left the Premier League’s most established goalscorers in his wake. Little has been made of Harry Kane’s 28-goal haul this term, while Salah is widely considered to have endured an underwhelming campaign despite netting 19 Premier League goals and claiming 11 assists.

Yet should the Liverpool attacker make an adjustment to his game, he could be recording even better numbers than Haaland next season.

Salah vs Haaland

Salah has scored as many goals against top-half opposition as anyone this term, including Haaland.

Indeed, the Egyptian has scored 13 of his 19 Premier League goals against top-half teams, including three against Manchester United and Tottenham respectively.

The only other player to have scored as many against the top-half sides is Kane, while Brentford’s Ivan Toney has scored 12 of his 20 goals against the league’s top 10.

Meanwhile, Haaland has claimed 11 goals against the top-half sides including three against United and two against title rivals Arsenal.

However, against the bottom-half sides, Haaland has netted some 24 goals, including four against both Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers, and three against West Ham and Nottingham Forest respectively.

Indeed, Salah drew blanks against the likes of Palace, Bournemouth and bottom-side Southampton. Should he improve his record against the bottom-half teams, the 30-year-old could draw numbers that are equal to Haaland’s.
