Reputable journalist David Ornstein has revealed that Liverpool’s stringent wage structure is why no new deal for Mohamed Salah has yet been agreed.
The Egyptian international is set to enter the final year of his current contract at Anfield and while there have been talks over a new deal, an agreement has yet to be reached.
Liverpool have offered Salah favourable terms, but the 30-year-old is said to be demanding somewhere in the region of £400,000 per week to stay on Merseyside.

David Ornstein of The Athletic has mooted the reasons behind this inability to reach a compromise at this point.
“What is essential here is the wage structure that needs to be respected for Liverpool to keep a harmonious camp and to remain sustainable,” the reliable journalist said on The Athletic’s Football Podcast.
“Paying Mo Salah in excess of £400,000 a week as he heads into his 30s is one thing. It’s a much bigger question than paying Darwin Nunez, I don’t know what it will be about £80, 90, 100, 110,000 a week.
“That slots in perfectly and that is part of Liverpool’s methodology going forward. Paying in excess of 400,000 pounds a week is not, and perhaps that’s why we don’t have an agreement on Salah as things stand.”

Liverpool’s cautiousness to hand out a mega contract to an ageing player who is only likely to start declining in the coming years is indicative of a club that has been extremely well run in recent years.
If no agreement can be met with Salah this summer, it could open up the doors to an exit.
With 30-year-old Sadio Mane on the verge of joining Bayern Munich and 22-year-old Darwin Nunez just arriving at Anfield for £85 million, it’s clear that Jurgen Klopp is attempting to rebuild his squad and lower the age profile as he attempts to launch the next iteration of this historic club.
If Salah is to depart the North West in this window, he’ll leave after a highly successful spell at the club, scoring 156 goals in 254 appearances and winning six major honours.
