Arsenal deny any wrongdoing with Moises Caicedo 'transfer request'

Arsenal deny any wrongdoing with Moises Caicedo 'transfer request'

The Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder took to social media to make it very clear that he wants to leave the club for Arsenal this month.

Arsenal have denied any wrongdoing, after Moises Caicedo sent the most public transfer request in some time, as he attempts to force a move to the Premier League leaders.

The Gunners may be looking really good for the title, after wins against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in recent weeks, but Mikel Arteta refuses to rest on his laurels.

Already this month, Arsenal have brought in Leandro Trossard, after missing out on Mikhailo Mudryk to Chelsea's hijacking, and centre-back Jakub Kiwior.

Trossard made his debut in that win over United and has already shown it was a pretty shrewd piece of business by the north London club.

But the Belgian forward isn't the only player they're hoping to bring in from Brighton, with a £60 million bid for midfielder Moises Caicedo having been rejected.

Roberto de Zerbi's side have no interest in selling the Ecuadorian, even though he clearly wants to join Trossard at the Emirates Stadium.

The 21-year-old took to social media to say that he was grateful for his current side but made it clear he wanted them to accept a 'record breaking bid.'

According to football.london, Arsenal have felt they needed to make it clear to the Seagulls that they had nothing to do with the social media post.

Clearly wanting to make sure the relationship stays good with the would be sellers, the Gunners let them know the player was acting on his own.

Caicedo's desire to leave, along with the very solid interest in the player, has seen Brighton give him a break from the team, and he missed training on Friday.

He had been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea following the World Cup, with the Blues desperate to add a central midfielder to their squad.

Despite their heavy spending, Graham Potter's side refused to match the release fee for Enzo Fernandez, making Caicedo their top target.

Even though the Ecuador international worked with Potter at the American Express Community Stadium, he now prefers a move to north London, instead of west.

Whilst he may be hell bent on leaving, and it's understandable considering his current wages and the chance to win the league, Brighton are said to be holding out for close to £100 million and have no need to sell him.
