More Than Half Of Britons Think Roman Abramovich Should Have Chelsea Seized From Him

More Than Half Of Britons Think Roman Abramovich Should Have Chelsea Seized From Him

One MP has said the Russian billionaire should have Chelsea taken off Abramovich, following Russia's war on Ukraine, and people agree.

Roman Abramovich should have the ownership of Chelsea seized from him, in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, according to over half of Britons.

Russia President Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine on Thursday morning, causing mass outrage at Putin from across much of the world.

His actions have led to sanctions from the British government on Russia, and certain Russians in the UK, but many believe they haven't gone far enough so far.

One MP even called from Abramovich to have his football team seized from him, despite the fact the billionaire has often refuted any current links to Putin.

And now it seems that the British public agree with Labour MP Chris Bryant that the club shouldn't be in the Russian's possession, with over 61% of those polled saying it should be removed, or that sanction doesn't go far enough.

The 55-year-old no longer lives in the UK, and hasn't had citizenship since 2018, and has rarely been seen at Stamford Bridge since moving to Israel.

He did return at the end of last year, and was also in Portugal to see the team win the Champions League last season, when they defeated Manchester City in the final.

Abramovich won a lawsuit against publisher HarperCollins last year when a book about Putin claimed the Russian president had ordered the billionaire to buy the Blues in 2003.

Whilst he is yet to comment on the situation in his home country, his daughter posted on social media that it was Putin's war and that the Russian public did not back the invasion.

Since buying the west London club, Abramovich has seen incredible success at Stamford Bridge and the club have won literally every title.

Five of the club's six league titles have been won since 2003, as well as five FA Cups and two League Cups, and success hasn't been limited to domestic titles.

They've won two Champions Leagues, two Europa Leagues and the UEFA Super Cup. Success in the recent FIFA World Club Cup rounded off their haul of title wins.

On Sunday they could add another League Cup victory, as they are set to meet Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
