Gary Neville explains why Arsenal won't win the league as he and Jamie Carragher give their predictions

Gary Neville explains why Arsenal won't win the league as he and Jamie Carragher give their predictions

Gary Neville doesn't think Arsenal will win the Premier League title despite their commanding position.

Gary Neville believes Manchester City will pip Arsenal to the Premier League title as he gave his mid-season predictions on Monday Night Football.

Neville and Jamie Carragher picked their title winner, top four, team to stay up, Player of the Year and Manager of the Year following Tottenham's 1-0 win over Fulham on Monday.

And the former Manchester United defender reckons Manchester City will win the league despite being five points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.

The Gunners continued their impressive league campaign by beating Man United 3-2 on Sunday, but Neville reckons Pep Guardiola's team will 'start to purr' and 'put pressure' on Mikel Arteta's side.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: "We're so far out - 19 games to go - to be getting asked about this. I don't Man City have started yet - they have been messing around. Pep Guardiola has been rotating.

"When they start to purr, I think they'll motor on and put pressure on Arsenal. The run-in doesn't start until April."

Carragher, on the other hand, thinks Arsenal will win the league, citing Man City's Champions League venture.

"It's not just the points gap but it's Arsenal's performances in big games," the former Liverpool man explained. "They aren't just getting over the line, they are streets ahead of the opposition.

"The Champions League will be a factor for City. Once they start getting to the quarter and semi-finals in April, those City players will be focusing on the Champions League. I just think Arsenal will pip them."

They also named their top four, with Neville opting for Man City, Man United, Arsenal and Spurs while Carragher went for Arsenal, Man City, Man United and Newcastle.

Neville likes Everton's chance to remain in the top flight while Carragher is tipping Wolves to stay up.

And the pair of pundits named Erling Haaland as the Player of the Year and Arteta as the Manager of the Year.
