Newcastle United fans on the way to Wembley exchange insults with coach carrying Sunderland supporters

Newcastle United fans on the way to Wembley exchange insults with coach carrying Sunderland supporters

The two coaches passed each other on the motorway - and you can probably guess what happened next.

Newcastle United fans heading down to Wembley on the coach for Sunday's Carabao Cup Final got a surprize on Saturday (24 February) - as they passed a coach full of Coventry-bound Sunderland fans.

The two coaches passing each other resulted in some hilarious antics, although its safe to say the Magpie fans will have the last laugh being as their final destination is Wembley Stadium.

Newcastle are aiming to win their first trophy since 1969 when they play Manchester United this weekend, with Eddie Howe's men enjoying a remarkable season to date.

As for Sunderland, it could turn out to be a nightmare weekend if the Geordies do win the Carabao Cup, with their side having already lost 2-1 away to Coventry on Saturday afternoon.

Several videos of the two rival coaches crossing paths were uploaded to social media, and you can see one of them - shared by @ajustice00 - below.

The footage was enjoyed by football fans far and wide, with many relating to the distinctly British hand gestures and insults on display.

One Twitter user replied to the video by saying: "Highlight of my weekend so far lol...football at its finest."

Another person added: "This is brilliant", while a third blasted "modern fans" for the lack on moonies on show. I can't say I share their disappointment.

While Sunderland fans will be headed back to the North-East disappointed by the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Coventry, its been a decent campaign so far for the club. Currently sitting in 9th place in the Championship, Tony Mowbray's men are just four points off the play-off places.

On Tyneside, meanwhile, excitement is brewing ahead of a historic afternoon. Newcastle head into the Carabao Cup Final as underdogs partly thanks to the absence of the suspended Nick Pope.

However, the Toon's chances of winning would certainly be bolstered if Marcus Rashford was deemed unfit to play on Sunday - as some media outlets speculate he might be.

While the England man, who is in red hot form, has been included in United's squad for the final, there is a question mark over his fitness.

Speaking about the availability of his main man, United boss Erik ten Hag said on Friday: "We have to do investigations, medical, of course, yesterday we did.

"So straight after a game most of the time you can't say, you have to wait for a 100 per cent diagnosis. So let's do the medical, the work, we have to wait."
