Newcastle 'Preparing Ambitious Transfer Swoop' For PSG Star And Have 'Made Contact' With French Giants

Keylor Navas is under contract with PSG until 2024, but the Newcastle target is being challenged for the No 1 spot by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Newcastle are plotting an audacious transfer swoop for Paris Saint-Germain star Keylor Navas, according to stunning reports.

Navas won three Champions Leagues and a La Liga title with Real Madrid before he signed for PSG in 2019.

The 35-year-old Costa Rican shot-stopper has made 97 appearances for PSG and remains the club’s preferred No 1 between the sticks.

However, Navas is now battling to maintain his position in the starting XI under Mauricio Pochettino after the signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma last summer.

Pochettino has rotated between Navas and Donnarumma this season, with the latter arriving on a free transfer after a blistering Euro 2020 campaign with Italy.

According to RMC Sport, Newcastle have now ‘made contact’ with PSG to express their interest in potentially signing Navas.

However, it has been reported that the Ligue 1 club want to keep Navas until the end of the season and are ‘closing the door’ on a January transfer.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has Martin Dubravka, Freddie Woodman and Karl Darlow as three potential options between the sticks.

It remains unclear if Newcastle will attempt to test PSG’s position by trying to sign Navas in January, but the club may wait until the summer window opens.

Newcastle are believed to be interested in signing a new No 1, with Navas’ former Madrid teammate Thibaut Courtois linked with the club in recent weeks.

The Magpies have been busy in the January window in a bid to strengthen their squad and fight for Premier League safety.

Kieran Trippier arrived at St James’ Park from Atletico Madrid in a £12m deal, with the England international becoming the first signing under Newcastle’s Saudi Arabia-led owners.

Newcastle also secured New Zealand striker Chris Wood from Burnley after paying his £25m release clause.

The Premier League club’s January spending spree is far from done, according to reports.

The Athletic reports that Newcastle are targeting five more signings before the window shuts, with Howe wanting to reinforce his squad with a striker, a left-back, two central defenders and another forward.
