Thiago rose through the ranks at Barca and made 100 senior appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals. He played alongside Xavi between 2009 and 2013, before moving on to continue his career at Bayern Munich.
There has been some movement to secure Thiago's signature, with Xavi having already met with Joan Laporta to discuss the signing of a player who is said to be "very appreciated" by the Barcelona manager.
The 30-year-old has made seven appearances across all competitions for Liverpool so far this season and recently returned back to action from a calf injury in the Reds' 3-2 defeat at West Ham United.
He joined the Merseyside club in September 2020 from Bayern Munich and featured 37 times for the club to date, scoring once.
Thiago enjoyed a glittering first spell at the Camp Nou after winning 4 La Liga titles, 2 Spanish Cups and 2 Spanish Supercups.

His versatility will also be a big selling point for the Barcelona hierarchy. Despite mainly being used as a central midfielder, he has also been deployed on both flanks and in a more advanced number 10 role.
But the immediate focus for Xavi is the Derbi Barceloní match at home to Espanyol on 20th November.
The Camp Nou legend will be eager to close down the current 11-point gap between themselves and surprise La Liga leaders Real Sociedad.
They were most recently held to a 3-3 draw by Celta Viga after surrendering a 3-0 lead and succumbing to a stoppage-time equaliser from Iago Aspas.
