Bayern Munich legend Bastian Schweinsteiger has suggested that Joachim Low recalls the services of Jerome Boateng and Thomas Muller after Germany's thumping defeat to Spain.

Manchester City winger Ferran Torres scored a hat-trick as Spain thrashed Low's side 6-0 in their Nations League clash at the Estadio La Cartuja on Tuesday.

And Schweinsteiger, who made over 100 appearances for Germany before retiring from international duty in 2016, pulled no punches towards Low over his side's performance.

The former Bayern Munich and Manchester United midfielder told ARD: "You can lose to a team like that, but not 6-0.

"What bothered me is that they didn't fight back, they didn't feel like a team. You didn't hear any commands, only those of the Spaniards. They were superior to us every respect.

"You don't have to change and upset everything but ask yourself the right questions.

"You have to change something, that's not how you can appear as a national team.

"There are certain values that a German national team has to represent. And I didn't see that on the pitch today."

Boateng and Muller have been left in the wilderness since Low cut the Bayern Munich duo from his plans in March 2019.

However, Schweinsteiger is hoping that the Germany boss will make a U-turn on his decision and recall both Boateng and Muller to the national team.

The 2014 World Cup winner continued: "The national coach and his team have one opinion, I personally and unfortunately have a different one.

"Players like Jerome Boateng and Thomas Muller have won the treble, with the best team in Europe.

"They play in the first team and have quality, are German players. Why not for the national team?"

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil also echoed Schweinsteiger's sentiments by calling on the return of Boateng to the German national team.
