Timo Werner has been given a North Macedonian identity card after his horrendous miss for Germany last night.

Germany lost 2-1 at home to the 65th ranked team in the world and Werner's sitter in the 80th minute at 1-1, proved costly.

After the ball was squared by Ilkay Gundogan, the Chelsea striker inexplicably fluffed his lines and put the ball wide with his left foot when he was just yards out and the goal was open.

Five minutes after the huge chance was spurned, Eljif Elmas scored the winner for the visitors and secure a memorable win for North Macedonia in Duisburg.

As if the embarrassment of missing such a golden opportunity wasn't enough, media in Macedonia have trolled Werner by giving him his own identity card.

SID mocked up the document, complete with his name, date of birth, headshot and signature in a tongue-in-cheek gesture for him helping the country seal one of its greatest ever results.

Werner's miss was so bad that even North Macedonia defender Visar Musliu was in complete disbelief over the former RB Leipzig man not finding the net.

He was spotted holding his hands on his heads, mirroring the reactions of both Werner and Gundogan.

Speaking on the miss, Germany boss Joachim Low said: "He must put that ball away, no question at all.

"He has shown here he can score goals.

"But he doesn't hit the ball right with his left foot, if he makes a clean contact with the ball it's a goal."
