Naples has been lit up with pyro after news of Diego Maradona's sad passing following a cardiac arrest.
Maradona is a legend to all of football fans but to the city of Naples he means even more and so Neapolitans reacted by setting off flares and fireworks beside a mural of him.

Maradona joined the Italian outfit after two years at FC Barcelona in a transfer that was basically the equivalent of Lionel Messi signing for Crystal Palace.

75,000 fans came to his unveiling and it wasn't long before Maradona had the adoration of the whole city. He became the club's captain and almost single-handedly led them to their first ever Serie A title in 1987.
They also won the Coppa Italia, UEFA Cup and then another league title in 1990. In total, Maradona scored 115 goals for the club and was their all-time top scorer until the record was broken by Marek Hamsik in 2017.
His iconic No.10 shirt was retired in 2000 and Maradona will forever be viewed as 'God' in the Southern Italian city.
Argentina are embarking on three days of national mourning following his death but Naples ought to do the same given how much 'El Diego' means to them.

Schools in Naples will close for a day, while the Mayor of the city, Luigi de Magistris, has proposed that Napoli's San Paolo Stadium is renamed in his honour.
