Edouard Mendy Calls Out FIFA For Massive Mistake, He's Only One Of 34 Nominees To Be Impacted

The Chelsea keeper took to social media to point out how unfair the mistake was to Senegal - the country he represents.

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has called out the FIFA World Cup social media team for a strange error in one of their recent Instagram posts.

The post in question shows five top-class keepers that will very likely be playing at next year's finals in Qatar, with Mendy included alongside the likes of Manuel Neuer and Gianluigi Donarumma.

However, while the other four keepers are featured in their national team jerseys, Mendy's picture instead shows him wearing what appears to be a training under-top.

The 29-year-old understandably felt aggrieved at the photo selection, seeing it as a slight against the country he represents, Senegal.

The Lions of Teranga are just a playoff game away from reaching next year's World Cup, not that you'd know it from FIFA's post.

You can see Mendy's reply in the tweet below.

In his Instagram story, the former Rennes player directly tagged the FIFA World Cup account, stating: "2 days I'm looking at this post and trying to understand why but I still don't get it."

"Is it normal I'm the only one without the jersey of my country Senegal? Is it fair for Senegal?"

Mendy is the only black goalkeeper shown in the promotional picture, which has raised many questions as to the motivations behind this error.

Just last week, the Chelsea star was forced to call out several media outlets for mistaking him with Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy.

Whether this particular gaffe was intentional or not remains to be seen for the time being. At the very least it exposes FIFA's alarming lack of awareness, but at the other end of the spectrum, it could be yet another sinister example of prejudice within the game.
