Rio Ferdinand has argued that Liverpool should join the race to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, as he would suit Jurgen Klopp's system more than Manchester City's.
The former Manchester United defender was speaking in the aftermath of Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Porto in the Champions League, which saw the Reds make it five wins from five in Group B.
They did so without regular forwards Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino, who were out with injuries.

However, in Ferdinand's opinion, Klopp should be doing all he can to try and secure the signature of another marksman - one that would reinvent Liverpool front's three.
For the 43-year-old, a move to Merseyside could yield greater success than if the young Norwegian opted to join Pep Guardiola at Man City - as many are anticipating he will.
"I think he suits other teams better [than Man City]...If I was Liverpool I would take him right now," Ferdinand said on BT Sport last night.

"If he goes to Liverpool that's a devastating front three. I don't think it's as hard for him to adapt if he goes to Liverpool. It's a different system."
The former England international used City star Jack Grealish as a cautionary tale, who has struggled at times to meet Guardiola's high tactical standards.
"You see Jack Grealish has gone to Man City, [he is a] top player, brilliant player, we all love watching him, but it's quite hard to adapt and get into that team," he added.

By contrast, ex-Liverpool striker Michael Owen, who scored 118 goals for the club in 216 appearances, thinks that Haaland's arrival at Liverpool might have the potential to destabilise the attack.
As he goes on to state, many of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane's goals come from the pair drifting inside the pitch, where a centre-forward would otherwise be.
"When Liverpool are at their best they leave a hole up front in the centre," Owen explained.
"[Roberto] Firmino or [Diogo] Jota will come off [for] those runs inside. I'm not sure Salah would get as many goals if Haaland was in the team.

"It's an unbelievable prospect but I would've thought that Manchester City would be the likeliest. [Destination]."
As for Haaland himself, a series of injury layoffs have limited his game time in Germany.
The 21-year-old hasn't played since October, although he will be hoping to return to action at some point before the Bundesliga winter break commences in just under a month's time.

A transfer tug of war is expected next summer for Haaland, who, reports claim, will be available for just £75 million - thanks to a release clause in his current BVB contract.
