Rio Ferdinand and Darren Bent are among those to have criticised Leeds United for their tweet about Amazon Prime pundit Karen Carney.
Leeds had called out the pundit for claiming that Marcelo Bielsa's side were only promoted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The last games of the Championship season were postponed by the crisis, but Leeds were ten points clear at the top of the league at the time and likely to cruise to the title even without the break.
Club owner Andrea Radrizzani has since taken responsibility for the tweet, explaining that he found the comments "unnecersary and disrespectful".
Former Elland Road star Rio Ferdinand was one of the footballing community to criticise the tweet, saying that it should be deleted.
In addition, ex-England international Darren Bent joined those hitting out at the club's actions, saying, "It's disgusting, I think. The fact that they can do that," and that it is, "painting them as a target."
