One of the worst refereeing decisions in recent memory happened last night when Keylor Navas got a foul in his favour after charging into his own player.

Late in the Champions League quarter final, Bayern were applying on the pressure as they searched for a goal that would take them into the semi-finals of the competition.

There was a bit of confusion in the PSG penalty area from Joshua Kimmich's free-kick in the 81st minute but some of that tension was relieved courtesy of an inexplicable decision from the referee.

Italian official Daniele Orsato bizarrely blew for a foul on the goalkeeper against Thomas Muller when he hadn't even put in a challenge.

Instead, Costa Rican No.1 Navas had knocked Leandro Paredes onto the floor as he tried to get a contact on the ball.

The man in the middle was conned into thinking Muller had committed the offence and called for a PSG free-kick that took off pressure as they defended their box.

Muller was quite rightly utterly furious and perplexed in equal measure as he tried to explain that he didn't do anything wrong.

Fans on Twitter echoed the German's disbelief over the decision:

Despite losing 1-0 on the night, PSG knocked out the holders on away goals courtesy of a 3-3 aggregate scoreline and will play Borussia Dortmund or Manchester City in the semi-finals.
