Erling Haaland is 'not yet a world-class player' despite his goal-scoring heroics, says a Borussia Dortmund legend.

Haaland has been the subject of intense transfer speculation following his ultra-prolific campaign last season.

He scored an incredible 41 goals in all competitions, with Chelsea thought to be interested in snapping up the 21-year-old this summer.

Thomas Tuchel wants a world-class striker at his disposal ahead of the new season, eyeing Haaland as the man to bring him more glory following Champions League success.

But the Norwegian phenom isn't quite at that level, according to Jurgen Kohler who believes Kylian Mbappe has more potential.

On Haaland, Kohler explained via Goal: "He's not yet a world-class player. He's a top striker and has all the skills to do so, but he still has to prove that.

"He's missing that certain extra class out of nowhere. At 21 he has already come so far.

"That is extraordinary. I am sure that he will always find tools so that he cannot be stopped. With experience comes world class."

The 55-year-old, who won the Champions League during his time at Dortmund, continued by comparing Haaland to Mbappe, claiming the Paris Saint-Germain superstar is more of a 'world-class' player.

"Kylian Mbappe has the greatest potential," he added.

"I see him more as a world-class footballer, because he doesn't just rely on speed.

"What does he do? Short hooks, short ball control - Mbappe doesn't do anything rash."
