"I Haven’t Had A Call Yet!" - Manchester United Legend Confirms He Will NOT Be New Manager

Former Manchester United ace Mark Hughes has ruled himself out of taking over at Old Trafford, following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The former Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers manager hasn't had a job in football since his ill-fated nine-month spell at Southampton back in 2018.

Prior to that, he found some success with United's cross-city rivals, helping oversee the club's evolution following Sheikh Mansour's takeover in 2008.

After a three-year absence from the touchline, the 58-year-old now claims that he does want a return to management - just perhaps not at Manchester United.

According to Hughes, the United board have been caught cold by the club's form slump of late, which is partly why their response since Solskjaer's firing has looked somewhat flat-footed from the outside looking in.

"They weren't anticipating that they would have to make a change this early. Clearly, it's been enforced as a consequence of the Watford performance.

"I think they thought they could get over the international break and come back strong, regroup and get back on track.

"But that clearly didn't happen against Watford and the news around the club and Ole just became too loud and something had to give."

Michael Carrick, who served as a coach under the Norwegian, will be in charge of the Red Devils for the trip to Villarreal on Tuesday evening, although it seems as if the club is moving towards hiring a new, permanent manager in the coming days.

However, with the former Spurs manager also thought to be keen on the role - after a tricky start in the French capital - United have the perfect chance to strike while the iron is hot.
