Juventus women's official Twitter account has apologised after it posted a picture of one its players making a racist gesture.
On Thursday evening the Bianconeri received huge backlash on social media for the tweet, which featured a laughing emoji and an image of a player with a cone on her head performing an offensive slit-eyed action.
Somehow, despite a barrage of replies and negative reaction, the tweet remained up for around 25 minutes before it was eventually deleted.
After the post was removed, the account issued an apology and said they did not mean to cause controversy or offend anyone.

Juventus wrote: "We sincerely apologise that our tweet, which was not meant to cause controversy or have any racial undertones, may have offended anyone. Juventus has always been against racism and discrimination. #DifferencesMakeTheDifference."
But many did not believe the apology was sincere enough and called for the perpetrator to be axed.
In 2017, former Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain winger Ezequiel Lavezzi was forced to apologise after he made the same gesture during a photoshoot for his club Hebei China Fortune.
A statement from the Argentine read: "Per the request of the Chinese Super League, we took the official photos for the season.

"We were given instructions by the official photographer and I was trying to make some interesting photos by making some funny faces, which would be used afterwards for entertainment purposes.
"I had no intention of insulting the Chinese people and did not do it with any bad intentions. I deeply apologise if this photo has offended the Chinese public and fans. I will be more careful in the future."
