Jurgen Klopp endeared himself even more to Liverpool fans by passionately praising them following a Carabao Cup penalty shootout victory over Leicester City on Wednesday night.

The Reds secured their place in the semi-finals after recovering from 3-1 down against the Foxes, thanks to goals from Diogo Jota and Takumi Minamino before winning the shootout 5-4.

Jamie Vardy's brace and James Maddison's stunning strike looked like being enough to send Leicester through to the last four, but the hosts pulled off a superb comeback to cap off a memorable night under the lights at Anfield.

"I don't know the exact percentage of how much we mean to Liverpool supporters in comparison to other things in their lives, but it's a big one," Klopp told Swedish broadcaster, Viaplay.

"We feel the responsibility but we feel the push we get from them much more.

"This club is so special. Everything we do is very important. We see it as an advantage that people are so behind us and I love it so much. it's unbelievable.

"Honestly, if I would have known how good this club is and how much we mean to each other, I would have wanted to be here much earlier. It's absolutely outstanding."

The reaction from the club's fans was clear to see, and only enhanced the German's already-glowing reputation on the red half of Merseyside.

Klopp's team now turn their attention back to the Premier League for a match at home to Leeds United on Boxing Day, which kicks-off at 12.30pm.

The Reds then travel Leicester again just two days later, in a gruelling festive schedule that is continuing, despite the increasing number of Covid-19 cases.

Liverpool currently sit second in the table and three points behind league leaders, Manchester City.
