Lampard Hails Premier League Star As The 'Complete Midfielder'

Lampard Hails Premier League Star As The 'Complete Midfielder'

It's hard to disagree

It's fair to say Frank Lampard knows a thing or two about bossing a game from midfield, given that the former Chelsea star did it on a regular basis for the Blues and helped bring three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, a Champions League and a Europa League to Stamford Bridge.

And now the Stamford Bridge favourite has been having his say on the Premier League's current crop of midfielders, with one player in particular being singled out for special praise.

While he may play for rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Mousa Dembele has caught Lampard's eye and, ahead of Spurs' crucial Champions League second round clash with Juventus at Wembley, tomorrow night, the former Chelsea and West Ham man has extolled all the virtues which make Dembele the 'complete midfielder'.

Writing in the Evening Standard, Lampard said of Dembele, "I played against Dembele when he was at Fulham and in his early days at Tottenham, I wasn't quite sure what kind of player he was back then.

"He was playing in a more advanced role, he could beat you left and right but there was no massive end product to justify being so far up the pitch.

"Now he has adapted his game to play deeper and still uses his ability to dribble past people, not many midfielders can do that.

"I always thought it was risky in that position, I liked the ball to move, but he's different.

"He can commit and beat somebody, which opens up the whole game, so he has something extra and he is also very strong in the tackle, he is a complete central midfielder."

The Belgium international has become one of Mauricio Pochettino's most trusted players over the past couple of seasons and has once again been integral to Spurs' push for a Champions League place, this term.
