Dejan Lovren Will Be Regretting His Pre-Match Merseyside Derby Comments

Dejan Lovren Will Be Regretting His Pre-Match Merseyside Derby Comments

Oh dear, Dejan

Stop me if you've heard this before but today wasn't the best of days for Dejan Lovren.

Liverpool's Croatian centre half was the villain of the piece for the Reds once again today as he gifted Everton a way back into the Merseyside derby by giving away a second half penalty, allowing Wayne Rooney to equalise, meaning Jurgen Klopp's men dropped two valuable points in their battle for the top four.

While the decision to award the spot kick for Lovren's foul on Dominic Calvert-Lewin seemed a little soft, it didn't do anything to help the former Southampton man's cause, with his regular mistakes now a constant, longstanding source of frustration among Liverpool fans.

And the Croatian's mistake was further amplified by his pre-match comments, which are now coming back to haunt him.

Speaking to Liverpool's official club website, Lovren explained how he felt 'mature' and in the best shape of his career.

"I am more mature now so I can advise other players, younger players, what to do on the pitch and sometimes be like a big brother for them.

"You feel the responsibility but it's a positive responsibility.

"I'm feeling in the best shape I've ever been here at Liverpool and hopefully in the next four or five years I can stay here and show my best here at the club, enjoying every game."

Maybe just stay well clear of pre-match interviews for a while eh, Dejan?
