Luka Modric is reportedly open to the prospect of making a return to the Premier League in light of Real Madrid's controversial contract policy.

Modric has enjoyed a stellar spell in the Spanish capital, after winning four Champions Leagues and two La Liga titles since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2012.

In total, he has made 405 appearances across all competitions for the side, scoring 28 goals and registering 65 assists.

But SuperDeporte revealed that the Croatian is unhappy with Real's policy of only offering one-year deals to players over 30, and is eyeing up Manchester City as his next destination.

The article from the Spanish news publication also explained that a return to Spurs or a move to newly-rich Newcastle United does not interest the 2018 Ballon D'Or winner.

Modric is now entering the twilight years of his career and another factor in City's favour is their connections with New York City FC, where he may be enticed to hang up his boots.

The 36-year-old made a big impact during his first spell in the Premier League, netting 13 goals and claiming 21 assists for Spurs during his 127 appearances in the English top flight.

His current contract with Los Blancos expires at the end of this season, and it remains to be seen if City make a move for the Croatia international.

For now, Modric will be turning his attention to a match at home to Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday night.

Carlo Ancelotti's side won their fourth consecutive La Liga game with a 2-1 win over Sevilla on Sunday - a result which leaves them four points clear of Atletico Madrid at the top of the table.

Modric is yet to score this campaign, but has four assists from his 14 appearances across La Liga and the Champions League to date.
