Peter Crouch has joked he's excited to be securing his Nigerian passport after seeing Harry Redknapp linked with the Nigeria job.

The well-travelled boss has been out of management since leaving Birmingham City in 2017 but according to ESPN, is the leading candidate to replace Gernot Rohr if he does not extend his contract which is due to expire next month.

It would be Redknapp's second stint in international management after he had a very brief stint in charge of the Jordan national team back in 2016.

But as we know by now, Redknapp loves to draft in players he's worked with before whenever he gets a new job. Enter Crouch, who took to Twitter to make a joke about getting his Nigerian passport so he's eligible to represent the Super Eagles.

The former England striker worked with Redknapp at Southampton, Portsmouth and Tottenham, while Jermain Defoe and Niko Kranjcar have also played under 'Arry' at multiple clubs.

It's unclear, at this point, whether the pair are looking into any potential Nigerian heritage in their family.

However, fear not because if Redknapp does indeed take the Nigeria post - he'll already have two legendary players he can phone up without needing to get them to change national team allegiance.

John Utaka and Nwankwo Kanu, who both played for Redknapp in Portsmouth's side FA Cup winning side in 2008, might be a combined age of 81 these days but they could still do a job.
