Phil Neville's reasoning for Paul Pogba's poor showing against Bristol City in the Carabao Cup defeat last night has left plenty of people completely baffled.
The Frenchman, was back in the side after serving a three-game domestic ban, but like the rest of Jose Mourinho's stars, failed to perform against the Championship outfit, who were very good value for their 2-1 victory - even if Mourinho believes they were "lucky".
Former United player Neville was in the studio for analysis of the game on Sky Sports and stated that the reason Pogba never got going was because the pitch was "too dry" and it didn't suit his playing style.

Clearly, the Ashton Gate was not in pristine condition but Neville's attempt to give an excuse for the United midfielder's struggles garnered plenty of reaction on social media:
Bloody hell, Fizzer. Talk about scraping the barrel!

Neville did also say that Pogba was fortunate to have not been sent off when he went in on Marlon Pack with his studs up.
"He got sent off for a tackle like this on Bellerin," he said at half-time.
"He's got away with that there, because he's not connected with the leg of Pack, he has slid across the thigh."
