Peter Crouch has moved a step closer to a sensational return to the Premier League after Burnley are reportedly in 'advanced talks' with Stoke City.

That's according to the Daily Telegraph's John Percy, who said that the Potters are interested in landing the Clarets' Sam Vokes.

However, the two clubs have hit a current roadblock when it comes to negotiating a fee for the deal.

If the deal does move ahead as planned, then Crouch would be heading to Turf Moor before the January transfer window closes.

Stoke signed Crouch from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 for a reported fee of £10m.

The former England international has made 225 appearances for the club and scored 46 times during his eight-year stint.

Last week, Burnley manager Sean Dyche provided an update on the club's position in the window.

"January is very tough, everyone knows that, we don't say it just to throw a line out there, I think it just is," he said (via the Lancashire Telegraph).

"We want the pressure, I wanted to bring in more in the last window, I made that clear to everyone, not because I don't trust my players or rate them, because I do.

"But there's only so much pressure as a manager you can put on players, there's a different kind of healthy pressure which comes with new signings, with capable signings, because I was a player and you look around and think 'I've got to look after myself.' That can enhance performances.

"Managers have brought players in and they don't always play, but it raises the bar, and the standard pushes again.

"Then, if they do play, it raises the bar anyway, because the fella who's come out of the team is trying to work to get back in it.

"I still would sign players if they are right for what we need, and we want to do that on an ongoing basis, for that in-house demand."

Would Crouch be a hit at Burnley?
