Thomas Muller Heard Telling Referee That Atletico Madrid Are "The Biggest Bullies In World Football"

Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller labelled Champions League opponents Atletico Madrid "the biggest bullies in world football" during last night's Group A clash.

That's according to GOAL, who claim the German international expressed his fury after referee Michael Oliver brandished a soft yellow card for a foul on full-back Kieran Trippier.

Muller was heard shouting: "What's going on here? Hey! You can't be serious - we're playing against Atletico Madrid, the biggest bullies in world football! And I get a yellow for something like that?" towards Oliver.

The English official went on to hand out six yellow cards to Atletico and a further two cards to the home side.

In his post-match press conference, Bayern manager Hansi Flick labelled Simeone's no-nonsense side as "aggressive" but maintained that his team matched up to Atletico's physical prowess.

'It can be said that we have been very physical, especially against this team that plays the ball very aggressive, and it was very important to show our face and show our quality,' he said.

Flick was also full of praise for Muller after the full-time whistle, despite the 31-year-old failing to find the the back of the net.

"He always knows where to be - and he coaches the team," Flick told Sky. "He played on the right side today but he's still very, very important at the centre of our game. You could say that he's our coach on the pitch.

"Sometimes he could play a safer ball, sometimes there is a little too much risk involved. But that's what makes him who he is."

The Bundesliga champions knocked four goals past Diego Simeone's side inside the Allianz, with Kingsley Coman (2), Leon Goretzka and a screamer from Corentin Tolisso comlpleting the 4-0 rout.

It was a relatively easy night for Hansi Flick's side, who are one of the favourites to lift the Champions League trophy again after last season's emphatic performance in Europe's elite competition.

Tolisso's 25-yard strike against the talented Jan Oblak summed up Bayern's performance on the night.
