Peter Schmeichel Hits Back After Jamie Carragher Reminds Him That He Played For Manchester City

“What is going on with you today, huh?”

Peter Schmeichel was given a timely reminder about his spell at Manchester City by fellow pundit Jamie Carragher after being asked if he would take the Manchester United interim job.

'The Great Dane', who made 398 appearances for United during eight trophy-laden years, spent the 2002/03 season at local rivals City; a decision that didn't go down well with former captain Gary Neville during the Manchester derby.

He would later announce his retirement in April 2003 after making 29 appearances for the Blues.

Schmeichel, alongside fellow pundits Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards, spoke about Manchester United's 2-0 win against Villarreal on Tuesday night when his spell at Maine Road was brought up in conversation.

While discussing the vacant role at Old Trafford, a curious Richards asked: "On a serious note, Peter, would you take the job if they offered it to you until the end of the season?"

Schmeichel was quick to respond. "I would do anything for that club," he said. "Of course I would. I would help them out in any way I could..."

Carragher then reminded him of that spell at Manchester City and well, the laughter commenced.

Moments later, Schmeichel fired back. "What is going on with you today, huh? You know what's really interesting: after your club [Liverpool] has won one Premier League... all of a sudden, you're all the way up there looking down on us."

"That's a big nibble!" Richards responded, as the studio continued to laugh.

On the same night, Schmeichel claimed that former Newcastle manager Steve Bruce would be a "fantastic" interim boss for Manchester United following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last weekend.

It was reported earlier this week that Steve Bruce would be 'very keen' on an interim role at Old Trafford. In fact, he believes he would be able to stabilise the dressing room if he takes over, report The Athletic.
