Chelsea legend Petr Cech showed his support to angry Blues fans and pleaded with them for "more time" amid furious protests over the European Super League.

The London club are one of the six Premier League sides to be involved in the controversial European competition.

But Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United have been blasted for becoming one of the 'founding members' of The Super League.

Furious Chelsea fans expressed their dissatisfaction by holding a protest ahead of the Blues' clash with Brighton at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

Cech, who is currently a technical and performance advisor for Chelsea, went out to meet the fans and tried his best to comfort them during the heated protests.

The 38-year-old Czech could be heard yelling at fans, saying that he 'knew' why they were angry and asked for more time as police separated them.

The Athletic's Simon Johnson reports that Cech appeared 'shocked at what he was seeing when he arrived' at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are now reportedly set to leave The Super League as they have 'prepared documentation to request their withdrawal' from the competition.

The Super League is set to be called off as the 12 founding members will hold a meeting that is expected to result in the disbanding of the competition.

The creation of the European Super League has been widely condemned by the likes of the Premier League, UEFA and FIFA.

Former players, fans and pundits have slammed Super League clubs, as well as politicians in the UK voicing their opposition to the competition.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has now launched a scathing attack on the Super League and even compared it to the "cartel."

The 56-year-old said: "Be in no doubt we don't support it [...] it's not in the interests of fans or football.

"How can it be right to create a kind of cartel? If necessary to protect that principle of competition, we will seek a legislative solution."
