In one of the more unexpected news stories of the day, former Manchester United and Everton defender Phil Neville is ready to hold talks with the FA to become the England Women's manager.

Neville, who has been in coaching since he retired in 2013, has spent time at Valencia and Manchester United in years gone by, but the 40-year-old is now ready for another challenge.

Former manager Mark Sampson was sacked in September last year and the FA are ready to appoint a successor, according to Sky Sports.

Neville has since followed a host of players on Twitter, including Casey Stoney, Ellen White and Lucy Bronze.

In a Facebook Live stream on Thursday evening, Neville said: "Management is something I do want to do, whether it's today, whether it's tomorrow or whether it's in six months or six years.

"It's something that I will have to do. I've had two great experience as assistant managers at United and at Valencia, but now is the time where, for me, I want to be a manager and not a number two or an assistant.

"I want to cut my cloth and I've just got to wait for the right opportunity, really."

Neville continued, saying: "I'm dead relaxed about it because I'm in the media and I'm loving every minute of it. I work for a lot of TV stations, I still live in Spain and my life is pretty good."
