Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has been branded the 'biggest Premier League flop of the season' by fans ahead of Gareth Bale, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.

The Reds splashed out an initial fee of £20m to sign the 29-year-old Spaniard from Bayern Munich last September.

Thiago had a promising start to life at Anfield and appeared to be an important addition to Liverpool's midfield as they defended their status as Premier League champions.

However, the former Bayern star was sidelined in October after he sustained a knee injury in Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Everton.

Thiago has since returned to Liverpool's squad, but the Spain international has come under significant criticism over his impact at the Reds.

The Liverpool midfielder has made 15 appearances across all competitions this season, but he hasn't scored once or even registered an assist.

Fans have now blasted Thiago on social media as they firmly argued that he is the 'biggest flop' of the season.

"Let's be real with ourselves, Thiago has been an unquestionable flop," one fan said.

While another Twitter user argued: "Thiago has been a bigger flop than [Timo] Werner and [Kai] Havertz."

Someone else tweeted: "James Rodriguez is a much better signing than Thiago. The latter [is] probably [the] biggest flop of the season."

And a fourth fan added: "Why can't Liverpool fans accept that Thiago is a flop? Not having enough [affect] in games and he doesn't bring anything to this Liverpool side."

Bayern legend Lothar Matthaus has already urged the defending German champions to end Thiago's 'Liverpool nightmare' and re-sign him in the summer.

The 59-year-old World Cup winner told Sky Sports: "How about Bayern bring Thiago back to Munich?

"He is not getting on in Liverpool and in Munich he is missed by Hansi Flick and the fans.

"Anyone who says goodbye to Karl-Heinz Rummenigge so emotionally, the door is certainly never completely closed."
