In one of the more bizarre news stories of the day, Uri Geller has claimed responsibility for Thomas Muller's miss against England, saying he shouted "One, two, three, bend" before the Germany forward dragged his shot wide.

The 74-year-old, a self-proclaimed psychic, is known by many for his spoon bending and other illusions.

In the past, he has also claimed to be behind some of football's biggest moments. For example, while he was flying above Wembley in a helicopter during England's clash against Scotland at Euro 96, he claimed to have caused Gary McAllister's penalty miss by moving the ball using psychokinesis.

The TV personality also took credit for Reading avoiding relegation in 2002, when he urged fans to look into his eyes and repeat: "Win, Reading, win!" before kick-off. They recorded a draw and stayed up, although manager Alan Pardew played down Geller's contribution.

Geller is no stranger to making some big claims and his latest comes in the form of Muller's miss at Wembley.

At 1-0 down, the Bayern Munich man had the chance to capitalise on a wayward pass from Raheem Sterling. He ran through on goal and was one-on-one with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford but fluffed his lines in one of the most important moments of the match.


After the game, Israeli paranormalist Geller says he made it happen.

"There is no doubt in my mind that I was responsible for Muller's miss," he told the Jewish Telegraph.

"I was just about to go on the stage. I was behind the curtain. Shipi [Geller's brother-in-law] had the Euros app on his phone and I was watching the match.

"The saxophone player also had the match on and he will vouch for the fact that as Muller shaped up to shoot, I shouted, 'One, two, three, bend'.

"He was also shouting 'bend' as Müller tried to make contact with the ball. Instead of the word 'move' that I used in 1996, I shouted 'bend'.

"When I saw that England had won, I ran on to the stage and everyone was applauding.

"If you playback the miss in slow motion you will be amazed what you see. The power of the mind is immense."
