Renato Sanches Has Cost Swansea City Some Serious Cash This Season

Renato Sanches was considered to be one of the coups of the summer transfer window when Paul Clement used his contacts in the game to get the 2016 Golden Boy in at Swansea City on a season-long loan deal.

However, the Portugal international has been utterly dreadful and has looked shot of confidence anytime he's stepped onto the pitch for the Swans.

He's made a total of 15 appearances this term yet the most notable thing he has done is pass to a Carabao advertising board - a comical piece of play that caused Clement to shout "Fucking hell Renato!"

As per Wales Online, Swansea have paid out a massive £7.5 million loan fee to secure him for the season and it makes for even grimmer reading when broken down further.

Technically, Sanches has cost Swansea £500,000 an appearance and £8,731 for every minute he has spent on the pitch - that number being a lowly 859.

Persistent niggling injuries have derailed his progress and he's recently been back at Bayern for treatment.

Having not featured since a 1-1 draw against Notts County in the FA Cup and still unlikely to play again this season, Sanches is almost definitely not making Portugal's World Cup squad two years on from his impressive Euro 2016 tournament.

In fact, his manager and compatriot Carlos Carvalhal has already told him that.

"I don't think he has any chance of going to the World Cup," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"I told him to put expectations down, they have a lot of very good players - he is part of group - but has missed lot of games.

"I prefer to tell him my feelings, to put expectation down to be more solid and to recover and to be fit again.

"That must be his first challenge, to be fit and in physical condition to play. It would not be easy without games to be fit to play. It is a big distance between expectation and reality."

At 20, you'd think he'd still have time to turn things around but he's in a very dire situation at the moment.
