Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has offered his two cents on the long-running hotly-disputed debate between Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and himself.

Fans have frequently entered into heated debates over who the best midfielder was out of the three Premier League legends.

Both Scholes and Lampard won multiple Premier League titles with United and Chelsea respectively, while Gerrard never lifted the trophy with Liverpool.

When asked who was the best out of the three, a modest Scholes decided to end the debate once and for all.

"Stevie G and Frank, of course," the 45-year-old told BBC 5 Live's Savage Social.

"I'm sick to death of hearing about this, to be honest. It doesn't really matter. People can have their own opinions.

"Them two were amazing, amazing players. But very different players."

Gerrard, who is currently Rangers boss, managed to lift the Champions League with Liverpool during his illustrious playing career.

And the 39-year-old former England international scored 120 times in 504 appearances for the Reds and had 114 caps for the Three Lions.

Scholes, who retired from football in 2013, scored 107 times for United and made only 66 international appearances for England.

Meanwhile, Lampard maintained his consistent goalscoring form in the Chelsea midfield and scored 147 times for the Blues.

Scholes believes that the current Chelsea boss could arguably be the "best goalscoring midfielder that there will ever be."

The United legend explained: "Frank played the position well. He was in a team where he was allowed to do what he wanted.

"He had the license to go with [Claude] Makelele there. Probably the best goalscoring midfielder that there will ever be.

"Steven could do absolutely everything on a football pitch. He was quick, he was strong, he was physical, he could score goals and he could make goals.

"Defence probably wasn't one of his strengths, but I don't think it was any of our strengths."
