Someone Tracked Down The 10-Year-Old Lad Who Got The Sven Goran-Eriksson Trim In 2002

Tom Sylvester shaved his head like Sven Goran-Eriksson ahead of the 2006 World Cup - and someone found him years later.

In 2002, a 10-year-old mad England fan caught World Cup fever so badly that he ended up shaving his hair to look like manager Sven Goran-Eriksson.

At the time, all the kids would have been going for the David Beckham 'mohawk' but Tom went left-field with the balding hairline and completed the look with glasses.

He received a fair bit of coverage for his unique haircut, having been blazoned on the front of The Sun newspaper and interviewed on TV prior to the tournament.

Explaining his decision, Tom said: "There's quite a lot of people who dress up like David Beckham and I thought 'heck, Sven will be different."

13 years on and a chap called Matthew Durrant begun to wonder how Tom was doing and decided to try and track him down. What followed was a quite incredible Twitter thread.

Using detective skills that the Ted Hastings, Steve Arnott and Kate Fleming could only dream of, Matthew eventually found the main man himself.

His first bit of digging was unsuccessful and led him to another person with the same name, but then he stepped up his game - finding the name of his mother and the area where he lived and going straight in with a message.

On 15 December 2016, an early Christmas present arrived as Tom confirmed he was indeed 'Sven Boy' and the two shared a hilariously brilliant Facebook conversation.

Tom even sent photos of the newspaper cuttings he collected.

Sit back and enjoy the rollercoaster of a thread, where the case was truly cracked:

What an incredible story.
