Kasper Schmeichel is one of many Danish goalkeepers who have a very different approaching to catching a football.

We're accustomed to seeing 'keepers open up their palms and spreading their hands to be as big as possible and get a good grip when the ball is fired in their direction.

We deem that to be the traditional technique but the Danes, who have produced their fair share of very good goalkeepers, do things a bit differently.

Schmeichel, who has just saved Neal Maupay's penalty at the King Power Stadium in the Premier League, adops the 'Danish catch' method and it's genuinely next level.

The technique comprises of a great emphasis on the elbows being tucked in to catch the ball when it comes in near the chest at serious some pace.

The video was posted by 'Pro GK Academy', who explains that he would not coach this technique out of any shotstopper despite it being incredibly unorthodox.

The short clip has been circulating around social media and has even prompted a reply from former Manchester City City youth goalkeeper Greg Hartley, who says Schmeichel was using that very same technique when he played with him as a youngster.

Steve Dale, a coach with a UEFA Goalkeeper A Licence, added that another Leicester City and Danish 'keeper Daniel Iversen also catches the ball in the same way.

A quick look on YouTube and there's a video of a 10-year old perfecting the technique, along with a tutorial on the key steps to mastering it without error.
