Sir Alex Ferguson has identified the manager he wants to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.

Solskjaer has been relieved of his managerial duties at Old Trafford following the club's humiliating defeat at Watford on Saturday.

The 4-1 loss at Vicarage Road prompted the Man United board into swift action, sacking him on Sunday.

A host of managers have since been linked with the vacancy, with the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Brendan Rodgers and Erik ten Hag, among others, touted as potential successors to the Norwegian.

But Sir Alex wants Mauricio Pochettino at the Old Trafford dug-out and the Paris Saint-German boss is thought to be 'very keen' in taking charge of the Premier League side.

That's according to talkSPORT's Alex Crook, who says a potential move could happen in the summer rather than mid-season.

The report adds that his advisers have already held talks with members of the Man United hierarchy.

Pochettino was appointed PSG manager in January 2021 and is under contract until 2023.

The 49-year-old, of course, has enjoyed two managerial spells in England's top flight.

He rose to fame at Southampton before taking charge of Tottenham, managing 293 games during his spell.
