Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has the highest release in world football today, with the Frenchman's buyout set at a staggering €1 billion (£846.7 million).
Benzema has scored 240 goals for Los Blancos since arriving from Lyon in 2009 and his extraordinarily high release clause is a clear sign of just how important the No.9 is to Real.
Antoine Griezmann's clause is second on the list following his summer transfer from Atletico Madrid last summer. Signed for £107 million, Barca inserted a £677.2 million release clause into his contract.
Luka Modric and Brahim Diaz are opposite ends of their careers with Real Madrid but both have release clauses of £634.9 million, though of course no-one is ever going to be paying anywhere that much to take either away from the Spanish capital.

Lionel Messi comes in at fifth with a £592.5 million release clause that he more than deserves in all truth.
However, he's more likely to leave on a free due to the six-time Ballon d'Or winner having a special clause in his Barca contract that allows him to terminate his deal at the end of every season - something both Andres Iniesta and Carles Puyol had the option to do during their time at the Nou Camp.
Real Madrid trio Isco, Marco Asensio and Vinicius Jr all share the same buyout clause as Messi, while Gareth Bale and Gerard Pique complete a list dominated by the two giants of Spanish football.
