The proposed takeover of Newcastle United by Dubai-based billionaire Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan has brought to light some, quite frankly, outrageous transfer rumours in recent days.

But perhaps the most bizarre of them all has arrived on the scene, with bookies Sky Bet backing Newcastle at 25/1 to sign Paris Saint-Germain striker and World Cup winner, Kylian Mbappe.

No, really. Oddschecker claim that 64% of all bets in the last 24 hours have backed the switch, with Real Madrid the second most backed with 8% of bets.

Here are the current odds for Mbappe's next permanent club:

Real Madrid - 4/1
Newcastle - 25/1
Man City - 25/1
Juventus - 25/1
Liverpool - 30/1
Barcelona - 40/1
Man Utd - 66/1
Bayern Munich - 80/1

Rafael Benitez's side are also being linked with other huge names since reports of a takeover emerged. Sergio Ramos to Newcastle is currently at 20/1 with the bookies, while Gareth Bale to St James' Park is a hefty 33/1.

George Elek, the Oddschecker spokesperson, said the following about Newcastle being linked with Mbappe:

"Whenever a once rich club regains its wealth there is always a celebratory splurge on anyone and everyone attainable over a certain price bracket.

"Luring the most sought after player in world football a year after winning the World Cup though. Mbappe popping up on Tyneside would really prove that there is no limit to the power of money."

The Bin Zayed Group have since confirmed that discussions with Mike Ashley are underway, but the club have yet to comment.

"In response to the numerous reports in the world media this morning, we would like to comment as follows, we can confirm that representatives of His Highness Sheikh Khaled Bin Zayed Al Nahyan are in discussions with Mike Ashley and his team, about the proposed acquisition of Newcastle United Football Club." he said in a statement to Chronicle Live.

"We view it as an honor to have the opportunity to build on the strong support, history and tradition of the club.

"We have agreed terms and are working hard to complete the transaction at the earliest opportunity."
