A UK university has withdrawn its offer to a student after alleged racist abuse aimed at England players after the Euro 2020 final.

England were defeated by Italy on penalties at Wembley as Gareth Southgate's men fell short of lifting major silverware for the first time since the 1966 World Cup.

Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka were subjected to horrific racist abuse after they failed to score their respective penalties.

Video footage from a Snapchat group chat has now made the rounds on Instagram, with one person heard using racist language towards the aforementioned England stars.

According to Sky Sports, Nottingham Trent University has condemned the behaviour and confirmed it has "withdrawn an offer" from a student.

A spokesperson for the UK university said: "This allegation does not involve an NTU student. We do not tolerate any form of discrimination, including racism.

"We looked into this matter immediately and as a result have withdrawn an offer to an applicant."

Police have since revealed that five people have been arrested for racially abusing England players online after Italy's Euro 2020 win.

Rashford has since broken his silence after a mural of the Manchester United star in Withington was vandalised following his penalty miss.

The 23-year-old England international released an emotionally charged statement by saying that he would "never apologise for who I am and where I came from."

Borussia Dortmund star Sancho has echoed Rashford's sentiments in an equally powerful statement, adding that society needs to "hold these people accountable."

Saka also released a heartfelt statement by insisting that he doesn't want "any child or adult to have to receive the hateful and hurtful messages that me Marcus and Jadon have received."

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has since announced plans for match-day bans on those who have racially abused footballers online.

"You will not be going to the match -- no ifs, no buts," he said.
