US Superstar Alex Morgan Claims Equal Pay Battle Is For Her Daughter Amid Dispute With US Soccer

Alex Morgan has argued that the equal pay battle between the US women's national team and US Soccer will ensure her daughter will "not suffer what we suffered."

The 31-year-old American forward has been a vocal champion surrounding the ongoing dispute over equal pay alongside fellow US international Megan Rapinoe.

The US women's team previously launched a lawsuit against US Soccer as they sought over $66m in damages under the Equal Pay Act and the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

However, the women's national team were dealt a major blow in their case for equal pay after their lawsuit was dismissed last May.

The women's team have benefited from their battle with US Soccer after a partial deal was struck last month.

US District Judge R Gary Klausner ruled in favour of a settlement between US Soccer and the national women's team, which ensured them with professional support staff, hotel accommodations, charter flights and venue selection.

Morgan announced her pregnancy in October 2019 only months after she helped fire the United States to the Women's World Cup title for a record fourth time.

The 31-year-old former Tottenham striker and partner Servando Carrasco welcomed the birth of their daughter, Charlie Elena Carrasco, in May last year.

Now, Morgan has insisted that the fight for equal pay would benefit her daughter if she follows in her mother's footsteps.

Speaking to ESPN, the Orlando Pride star said: "The fight that we are doing right now for equal pay does not mean that we will achieve it in the short term.

"We are not going to get the equal pay right away, but it may be done by the time my daughter plays soccer and she will not suffer what we suffered."

Morgan took time out of football when she was pregnant with Charlie before returning to the sport in 2020, enjoying a brief spell with Tottenham as she regained her form and fitness.

The two-time World Cup winner returned to international duty earlier this year, but Morgan has insisted that she wants to prove her worth to the US international team.

"I want to show that I deserve to be at the top. I want to be the best player that I can be, that I can be a valuable member of the team after being a mother," she said.
